Rebuilding Together-St. Louis Receives Service Donation from GroupCast Messaging Systems
ST. LOUIS (January 9, 2007) - Managing a network of 2500 volunteers for a
one-day rebuilding blitz just got easier for the St. Louis chapter of Rebuilding
Together. St. Louis-based GroupCast Messaging System will be donating the
chapter the use of its voice broadcast service to meet organizational calling
needs during the 2007 program year.
GroupCast provides a web-based service which allows a single person to record
a message and send that message simultaneously to tens, hundreds or
thousands of group members. GroupCast's fast and personal phone messaging
system is the ideal solution for managing volunteer networks.
Across the country on April 21, teams will swarm out to attack needed repairs for
homeowners who lack the resources or the ability to perform the work
themselves. "In St. Louis, our goal is to repair 100 or more homes on that date,"
said Laura Hurt, Development Director for the St. Louis chapter. "The teams
consist of individuals and groups assembled under a 'house captain.' During the
year we develop a list of target homes and conduct site visits to determine the
extent of work and materials needed to facilitate the repairs. When the
Rebuilding Day arrives the teams and materials converge on the houses and the
work gets done."
This effort requires a tremendous amount of coordination, which up to this point
required significant time on the phone for Laura and her small staff. For this
year's Rebuilding Day, Rebuilding Together-St. Louis will be using GroupCast's
voice broadcast service to send directives, updates and reminders to the
volunteer network leading up to and following the one-day event.
"We first learned about Rebuilding Together, when we receive a mailing seeking
corporate donations for the cause," explained Paul Langhorst, Co-Founder and
Vice President of Operations for Groupcast. "I saw very quickly they needed to
make a lot of phone calls to get organized and the best way to help them was
with a donation of our service. Not only is this a way for us to help support our
home community, but many of the house teams come from area churches and
schools that utilize our SchoolReach Instant Parent Contact service, so we want
to support their efforts in-kind and show how our service benefits group events
and volunteer management."
