GroupCast Messaging Systems was founded in November 2002 in St. Louis, MO by Joseph Palacios and Paul Langhorst, who first met in 1999 while working on a joint project for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. After discovering a shared vision for building an organization to serve the rapid notification needs for schools and other organization types, they formed GroupCast, LLC. Shortly after formation; additional key members were added to round out the company. These included Joe Moore, who serves as CIO, and Kyle Palacios, who serves as VP of Client Services. In 2006, Paul Meiners C.P.A, joined GroupCast and assumed the role of CFO.
GroupCast was formed to serve several niche markets within the broader voice broadcast industry, and it was the vision and goal of the founders to offer robust notification and communication solutions from a hosted or "shared" service environment. By eliminating on-site hardware, phone lines and specialized software requirements, GroupCast opened up high speed notification services to a wide variety of businesses and organizations - most notably schools, which embraced the technology as a means to reach parents with emergency and general announcements with little effort and expense.
To support the education market, GroupCast created SchoolReach Instant Parent Contact in 2003 and found immediate success marketing the rapid notification service to schools in the St. Louis area. With increasing acceptance and success, SchoolReach achieved national distribution in 2008 when at that point customer accounts existed in all 50 US states.

- 2010: Named "Approved PowerSchool ISV Partner"
- 2011: Two-millionth voice broadcast achieved - totaling over 353 million voice calls.
